What is breathwork?
Breathwork is a practice that uses a 2:1 breathing technique to improve physical and emotional health. It is a breathing technique that is natural, safe and has many benefits; increased energy, a stronger immune system and a more relaxed state of mind.
You breathe all the time but how often do you notice your breathing and how it changes during the day or when something happens in your life? Do you hold your breath sometimes or feel like you can't breathe at all? Does your breath feel restricted, shallow, all in your chest or shoulders?
As babies we naturally breathe from the diaphragm, gently expanding our abdomen in a natural flow. However many adults have a dysfunctional breath; some breathe in their shoulders, in their chest, shallow breathe or control the diaphragm (the exhale).
This happens because as we go through life we unconsciously change our breath by tightening our bodies and holding our breath to avoid feeling painful or unsafe feelings. These responses to life become habitual over time and therefore our breath may change. Our breathing pattern can cause us to feel tired, stressed, anxious and out of control.
Having a breathwork session will help you to reach your full breathing capacity once again, like when you were a baby. As a result you will feel lighter, energised, more focussed and happier living life more fully in the present moment. You will have fully oxygenated cells, organs, brain, mind, emotions. Huge changes occur that are beneficial to your body and mind. The more you practice this breathing technique the more you allow ease and balance in your mind and body all the time. Your breath becomes your best friend, always there when you need it to calm you down or energise you.
When you have a breathwork session you will learn this breathing technique in a safe, supported environment. You'll learn to trust your breath, to let go and to feel. Afterwards you can begin a daily practice that will help you to live the life you've always dreamed of.
1:1 Breathwork session
At the start of the session I will help you feel safe and supported, talking through what to expect and asking you questions about what you would like to achieve. You may want to address particular issues such as asthma or panic attacks or you may want to let go of old emotions that are holding you back in life. You may just want to try breathwork with no particular reason in mind other than wanting a way to relax.
You will be lying down in a comfortable room and I will start by analysing your current breathing pattern. When I have made an assessment of your breath I will use different methods to bring the breath into the belly and regulate your breathing pattern.
How we relate to life, our feelings, thoughts and beliefs, show up in our breathing pattern so I may also use positive affirmations, movement and sound to support you through the process.
You may feel some sensations such as tingling, changes in body temperature and emotional releases. I will always be with you to reassure, support and guide you.
Sessions cost £120 for up to 2 hours.
Please note, I want to make breathwork accessible to all so concessions are available based on income and life circumstances (please contact me directly by email or phone).
